• Portals Vells and El Mago: Sheltered coves to the southwest, surrounded by pine forest. Turquoise water, natural caves and that wild feel that's hard to find so close to the capital.

When to book

Summer (June to September) is high season: calm seas, guaranteed sunshine and the coves at their best. But spring and autumn offer mild temperatures, fewer people on the water and better prices. Palma Bay works year-round thanks to its natural protection and modern marinas. Book ahead for July and August; the rest of the year there's more flexibility. Weekends always fill up first.
